james_cyr
what is better for all around photography? the Nikon D80 or the Eon Digital Rebel XTi? and why does the nikon cost more?
ronaldo_r
Personal choice. Ford vs GM. Coke vs Pepsi. Read reviews, try in store.
bruce_margolis
Which is better? Either one...... or neither one...... or both. Why does Nikon cost more? Because Nikon believes it packs more value in the D80, hence the higher price. Nikon owners will say it is worth it. Well, some of them anyway. I have the D80. Bottom line, both are great cameras. Try them out, ask lots of questions, read some reviews, and then go with your gut. Certainly neither one is bad.
Michael R Freeman
The D80 is better with AF Nikkor lenses. The Rebel XTi is better with Canon EF lenses. Other than that, flip a coin, or do your own research and decide for yourself which one has the features and handling that work best for YOU. You will not get ANY consensus here to your question, as there is no black and white right answer.
sfh
What kind of photography are you going to be doing? What's your total budget including lenses (and flashes, if applicable?)
steve torelli
Don't just look at the individual cameras, but at the two systems in their entirety, including lenses and accessories and how they may apply to the kind of photography you want to do. You're not just buying a camera, you're buying a SLR system. Good luck.
bueh
Even the cheapest of the Canon dSLRs can meter with chipless manual focus lenses. This was the deciding factor when I had to choose.
And you really should go to a photo store and check them out yourself -- how they feel in your hand, if the viewfinder is to your liking, how the controls are placed and operated, etc.
afs760bf
Yes, by all means, go to a store and play with them. The D80, I think, is a step up from the Rebel. But if you think you like the Rebel, ask to handle a Pentax K10D. And have them put a battery grip on it.
stormchaser
You can never get a straight answer on better or worse in photography. It all depends on what you want.
