wil_ussery
In the Pentax 645 do you have to have film loaded in a 120 or 220 magazine before the Aperture, Shutter and Program modes will work? I have not received film for my recently purchased camera and wanted to know, if this is the normal behaviour for the camera? I can change modes on the camera, but when I try to change the aperture or shutter by pressing the up or down button nothing happens.
floyd_waller
Yes, these cameras were originally supplied with a "demonstration" plastic back that allowed full operation without film but if you have only a normal film back or insert then you will have to load film to get proper function. wil_ussery
Thanks Floyd. I'll be getting some film today and can't wait to shoot my first roll.
godfrey
If you want one, you can get the plastic rear cap for only a couple of dollars used. I find it useful to have so I can keep the film magazines in their protective receptacles, ready for loading.
daijo
Hi! Ive got another question on the same subject. I have just received a Pentax 645 and havent any film yet. Should the viewfinder LED function without film in the camera? My doesnt seem to light up on shutter half depress or pushing the LED button. Normal without film? godfrey
Hello Daniel, Been long enough since I touched the P645 that I decided to pull it out and check for you. Yes, the LED readout in the viewfinder works without film in the camera, presuming the batteries are in good shape. They should toggle by pressing the LED button. Really must load some film and do some shooting with this camera again soon. Godfrey
daijo
Thanks, I started another thread about getting my P645 going and I think I've got it narrowed down to a faulty grip. The LEDs doesn´t show just like the camera isn't powered on. Another grip on the way so I hope using this camera soon to. :)
