chicodovale
I have a Nikon D-70s and I know that the original battery is an EN-EL3a. I couldn't get this battery on the market where I live but they offered an EN- EL3e, saying that it is also recomended for D70s. I couldn't find any information about that so I would appreciate if anyone could help me on that.
ShunCheung
The only remaining version from the EN-EL3 family that is still in production is the EN-EL3e. That can be used on all DSLRs that use EN-EL3 type batteries: D100, D70, D70s, D50, D200 and D80. The older EN-EL3 and EN-EL3a are no longer in production and those old models cannot be used on the D200 and D80.
nickwhite
Yes the EN-EL3e is compatible - will also be fine with the D80 if you were to update, whereas the older battery is not.
leonard_evens
Related question: Are the chargers which came with the D70 or D70s adequate to charge the EN-EL3e? The one that comes with the D70 at least has a lower amperage capacity.
chicodovale
Many thanks to Shun and Nick for help. That is a good idea to have this new battery because in case of update to another camera I can use that. Thanks.
ShunCheung
As far as I know, the MH-18 chargers for the EN-EL3 family are all interchangable. You can mix batteries and chargers.
cabophoto
Yes, I use both an MH-18 and an MH-18a charger for EN-EL3 and EN-EL3e batteries. Carsten
pamv
Francisco, You still can buy the EN-EL3a from the www.mercadolivre.com.br sellers, they use to cost less than the "new" EN-EL3e
chicodovale
Thanks everyone for answering my question. I just bought a new EN-EL3e to use with my Nikon D70s. I hope it will work very well. Regards, Chico.
ShunCheung
At this point, it is best to buy the EN-EL3e. The older models are only compatible with discontinued DSLRs.
