noalbany
What is the best mid-range DSLR ($1,500., or so)? Thanks.
jimstrutz
Listed in alphabetical order: Canon 30D, Nikon D200, Pentax K10d. Your choice. I'm sure someone will add some other fool choice of their own, but these are my picks, and all you're going to get are personal choices. There is no *one best* that will please all, and by asking for one, you are really asking for a fight to break out. :)
mark u
If "or so" allows slightly higher prices, you could add the Fuji S5 and Sigma SD14 to Jim's list. Each of the models mentioned has particular strengths and weaknesses which should inform your choice, and at that price level you will also want to investigate what lenses you'd want to use. sam_thompson2
Walmart.com has a sale on the Panasonic L1 for 1600.00 including lens. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5367838
Brian
Michael, I think you're asking the wrong question. As Jim pointed out, you're going to get a lot of personal opinions, which may be more or less well informed. Anyway, since you ask, the Pentax K10d (or the very similar Samsung GX-10). bruce_margolis
Michael, the best thing you can do is first read some reviews about the different cameras. With that knowledge, go into a store and try out each one. Some are larger/smaller so the feel may be important to you. All have different dials. Some of them may do something important for you. Think about it..... if there was a one-size-fits-all, wouldn't everyone buy only that camera? In the end, it's all about personal choice.

peter_foiles2
"Best" is a meaningless term unless "for what" is added.
