mac_mcanirlin
I have been using a SB-28 with my D80, I have not had any problems, but I do not use a flash all that much. I do plan on upgrading at some point so I can get the TTL capabilities.
rick_helmke
I use an SB-28 on a D1x, d1h, d2h and d200 and it does fine. I prefer the sb800 as it uses more of the designed-in capabilities but I get get good results with both units. Rick H.

erik_loza
Not to jack this thread, but I have run into an interesting issue with the newer Nikon DSLR's and wonder if anybody else has had the same experience. I have several SB28's that we use for supplemantary accent lighting in the studio. I also have an SB800 (wonderful tool, BTW...) that sees more on-camera use. Anyway, I periodically have one flash mounted to the hotshoe and then a second one physically slaved to that one with the TTL cable. For whatever reason, if it's an SB28 in the hotshoe and the SB800 tethered, it will not fire the SB800. None of this TTL baloney: Straight manual mode for ratio control. It's as if the DSLR cannot communicate at any level to the SB800 through an older speedlight. Our D70s used to do it and the D200 behaves the same way. It's a mystery to me.
