dex_rodriguez Posted April 16, 2007 Share Posted April 16, 2007 Hi, new to the forums....and also basically new to the hobby ...currently i'm just using a Canon SD800IS point and shoot and wanting to get a dSLR.... do you guys have any recommendations on what to get....i'm saving up some money so i won't be buying this today...but i'm looking at the sony a100 or the canon rebels...would this be good enough for a beginning hobbyist? also here's the link to my portfoilio...currently has only 5 photos since i haven't signed up for the full membership. http://www.photo.net/photos/dex_rodriguez thanks again. afs760bf Posted April 16, 2007 Share Posted April 16, 2007 Welcome, Dexter, The SD800IS is a nice P&S camera, and the shake reduction helps. You'd get lots of opinions on what to get for a digital. I'm sure either the Sony or the Rebel would suit your purpose. Most of the reviews say Sony has more noise at higher ISO than most. You can get a Nikon D40 for about the same price, I think. You might want to look at the Pentax line as well - K100D or K10D. Quite a lot of bang for the proverbial buck. Visit a photo store with real sales people and handle a few. See what you like. Cheers. Brian Posted April 18, 2007 Share Posted April 18, 2007 The Pentaxes are not being marketed as vigorously as the Canons or the Sony but I have a feeling they're better cameras (surprise surprise).
