gerfoy3
Hi, I have 2 Sigma DG 500 Super flashes and have been trying to use them in a master salve capacity. I can set the slave to Normal Slave flash and everything works fine. I have a light meter and I get the correct exposure from this. However, I shoot a few weddings from time to time for some cash for equipment and this setup will not work as it picks up all the other flashes going off. I bought a radio trigger (cheap one now) and could not get the flash to fire unless it was in this Normal Slave Flash mode so I had the same problem. I then decided to try channel settings within the DG super themselves but can not get correct exposures from the light meter, everything is way overexposed. I am guessing its because the sync speed of the flashes are 1/30s which I personally think is too slow for comfort anyway. So I am wondering either I'm doing something wrong (was I to leave the flash on ETTL and adjust the exposure manually on the falsh body?) and if I am I'm sure I will be told abaout is right away or is there something else out there people are using as radio triggers that enable the flash to be used off camera and not pick up other peoples flashes? I have since misplaced the radio trigger I had so if someone can recommend one that would be great, I have a wedding in 3 weeks and would like to have this understood for then so I can get some nicer lighting in my shots. Thanks in advance. Ger..
phoneguy
The 500 supers have optical slaves, and therefore will fire when it sees another flash go off. In order to get around this, you would need a hotshoe/pc adapter, and a reciever on each flash. Pocket Wizards are nicce, but spendy. I'm not sure why you would say the sync speed is 1/30. The sync speed is determined by your camera, but more than likely would be 1/125 shooting remotely.
gerfoy3
I have said 1/30s because this is what I am reading in the manual. Normally with my camera the sync speed is 1/250s. Ahh, I have read this section again and that is the case with multiple slaves. So maybe I'm in the wrong mode on the flash. Ger..
mark u
You should set the flashes for use as Wireless E-TTL units. That way, you can use any shutter speed you like (speeds higher than X sync require the master flash to be set to FP mode as well), and provided no-one else is using wireless E-TTL on the same channel, your units will only fire when you take a picture, and won't be triggered by other flashes. Read your instruction manual again! http://www.eosdoc.com/manuals?q=EF500DGSuper
