Good "standard" glossy paper for inkjet?

Recommended Posts

I've got an Epson R200 and I'm using MIS PRO inks. I've decided to get a

custom profile created for it, but before I do that I'd like to pick a paper to

standardize on. This would be for "day to day" use, mostly to make prints to

hang in my office, or to give to clients/friends as high-quality proofs (I have

all my "real" prints done on Fuji Crystal Archive paper). However, I do want

them to look as good as possible. I'm currently using "HP Premium Photo" glossy

paper, and I don't have any complains about it.

I'm looking for something that's:

Glossy

Takes MIS PRO inks well and will feed through my R200

Widely Available

Available in at least 8x10'ish size (letter, A4, etc.), with 4x6 desirable

for proofs and snap-shots.

Cost around $0.50-$0.65 per 8x10'ish sheet in 50 or 100 sheet quantities

(preferably closer to $0.50/sheet...).

Any recommendations? (positive or negative...)

Cheers,
Several recommendations for 8.5 x 11 inch sheets:

Ilford Galerie, Smooth Gloss, 100 sheets per box, $24.00 at Sams Club

Kirkland Professional Glossy Inkjet, 250 sheets per box, $22.00 at Costco

Red River UltraPro Gloss, 100 sheets per box, $31.00 at www.redriverpaper.com

These are all very good surfaces for photo imaging, and very cost effective for day to day use.

I second the Kirkland as a true glossy- the gloss looks much better than Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper and Ultra Premium.

Epson luster and semi-gloss (available in 4x6, too!) look good as well and look closer to Fuji Frontier matte papers than to a glossy. The Ilfords are acidic and non-archival.

These papers feed reasonably well through my R220 with MIS PRO. If you want volume, take a look at Epson semi-matte over here: https://www.eximvaios.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=2_536_539

Be warned- the cuts aren't perfect so you might have to toss some sheets. It's a great paper, though. The paper bronzes much less than Semi-gloss and otherwise looks good in my opinion. Not much glare at all.
