john_rountree1
I would like see more of the photographs taken by Willy Ronis. Can someone suggest a book(s) that give the best overview of his work, with high quality reproductions? Thanks for your help.

peter_n1664876959
What a terrific photog. I strongly recommend a book called Stolen Moments, or Gestohlene Augeenblicke, or Instants d鲯b鳠depending on the country you are in. A beautifully printed and inexpensive compilation that is inexpensive too. Published by Taschen in 2005, the ISBN is 3-8228-3958-2.
peter_n1664876959
David beat me to it while I got the book to find the ISBN. The trashed French title without the acute e characters is Instants derobes. You would think forum software these days would understand either special characters or standard HTML wouldnt you? peter_evans4
<p>I'd expect it to understand them, yes. And it can, can't it? Here's a French title by Ronis: <cite>Derrière l'objectif: Photos et propos.</cite> But rendering French is childsplay. I'd like to give you a the title of a Japanese collection of his work but unfortunately I can't think of any. If you enjoy Ronis's work I think you'll also like Kimura Ihei's. One excellent and very reasonably priced compact collection of Ihei is the recent <a href="http://www.heibonsha.co.jp/catalogue/exec/browse.cgi?code=634028">木村伊兵衛の眼</a>. How did the software handle that?</p>
peter_n1664876959
Hmmm. I saw the literal HTML charecters in the confirm message page so maybe I had not selected HTML in the text dropdown? (I hadn't had any coffee either.) OK so let's try this it should work: Instants dérobés.
steve_unsworth1
If you like Ronis try Boubat, both are two of my favourites.
gwebster
John that's spooky ... I've never been aware of him being mentioned on here since I've been a member (2002), but I've admired his work for some time and today I actually purchased a used collection of his works. The volume I bought is called "Willy Ronis - La vie en passant" and it was published by Prestel. It has text in English and German and a lot of truly beautiful photographs, including some of his famous works like "Le Petit Parisien".
nels
I have his book published by Prestel, and great enjoy it. Are there other books of his that don't have much of an overlap in photos from this book?
jerry_kirkwood
<i>I've never been aware of him being mentioned on here since I've been a member</i></p>I'm surprised if he wasn't ever mentioned, but he did give up on Leicas many years ago and most of his later work was done using Pentax SLR's with zooms, so to the Leica cultists he's a heretic. msitaraman
<p>He passed away a few days ago. RIP. One of the greats. Funny how little known or appreciated he was outside of France.</p>
