ned1
Got mine last week. It is astonishing. Almost noiseless at 3200. I think I will sell my D200.
briany
I'm glad you're happy with it, Edward; I'm sure it's a great camera. I've not had the pleasure of using one, but from this review, I really don't see that much difference between the S5 and the D200 when both have noise reduction turned off at ISO 3200: <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdc.watch.impress.co.jp%2Fcda%2Freview%2F2007%2F02%2F27%2F5666.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools">review link</a><br><br> I'm referring to these shots in particular. The <a href="http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&langpair=ja%7Cen&u=http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/parts/image_for_link/82731-5666-22-3.html&prev=/language_tools">D200 image with no noise reduction</a>, to my eye, has a moderate amount of noise that's very uniform and "film-like". The <a href="http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&langpair=ja%7Cen&u=http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/parts/image_for_link/82657-5666-31-3.html&prev=/language_tools">S5 image without noise reduction</a> looks to have a bit more noise, while the <a href="http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&langpair=ja%7Cen&u=http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/parts/image_for_link/82659-5666-28-3.html&prev=/language_tools">S5 image with noise reduction</a> seems a bit "blotchy" and I suspect worse than what one could do with a sophisticated noise reduction tool like Noise Ninja. Regardless, it's nice to have a new camera on the market, and using Nikon glass no less.
ned1
Do you own a d200? I do and have used it for about 20 wedding. It is bad at 800 and useless at 1600, even when I slather the results with Noise Ninja. I switched to a Fuji S3 and shot a few weddings with it last year. Too slow to be a main camera but the images were noiseless at 800. They were still not good at 1600 and you could never balance the colors right. I don't know what they did with the s5 but it shoots great at 1600 and not bad at all at 3200 even with noise reduction turned off.
mmene
I am thinking also to sell mine for this reason.
