brian_walsh7
can anyone out there give me some help on using the sb-800 for manual flash setting? i've got it strapped to a d80 and was hoping someone could make it a little easier to explain than the manual. (guide numbers, sensitivity factors, etc...) i shoot manual mode on the camera outdoors now, but with this new sb-800 how can i easily set the right amount of flash in M mode? thanks... greg jansen
Easy. Don't worry about power output, guide numbers, etc. Just put the flash on M, and adjust. the number to the right is how much of full power you are using, so 1/1 is the full power of the flash, 1/2 is half the full power, etc. etc. Just think of it like a volume control. Turn it up for more flash, down for less. The flash will fire consistently the same output you have set on the flash. The flash in M mode does not communicate with the camera (except to fire it). This means it is not affected by the exposure you have set on your camera. No TTL, nothing. Set your flash on M and your camera on M and play with the settings. YOu will really learn how things work.
