firmware change for D80?

I agree with Anthony - especially since it is easy. Although it does NOT promise to fix the exposure issue people have been complaining about (has Nikon ever acknowledged that? IMHO not a huge problem, once recognized).

hi Paul ...

read what the firmware upgrade offers you ... the *ONLY* reason to upgrade the firmware is to gain what the upgrade offers.

in other words, do you require:

* The electronic analog exposure display will be displayed in the viewfinder when the brightness of the subject exceeds the range that can be controlled by the camera, whether too bright or too dark, in the following shooting modes:

o Shutter-priority auto (S) or Aperture-priority auto (A) exposure modes with the built-in flash up

o Programmed auto (P) exposure mode

* Effects of processing performed when the Long exp. NR item in the shooting menu is enabled have been improved.

* When attempting to edit images, which had already been edited using a computer, with options in the D80?s retouch menu, the camera sometimes froze. Therefore, images that have been edited using a computer can no longer be edited using the camera.

* Errors in English, Polish, Swedish, and Traditional Chinese menus have been corrected.

... if any of these are of concern for your style of photography, then by all means, upgrade !

regards, michael

"I read what the upgrade offered, and decided not to take the time to upgrade my D80 as none of these things are valid for my style of photography"

I was led to believe Nikon fix some bugs without listing them. If so your camera may be improved by stealth.
