Canon trivia question.

Okay so I stayed up too late watching the same movie for the nth time, in this

case "The Paper" by Ron Howard. I love stuff like this and actually trying to

see how Hollywood thinks it happens. Anyway, in one scene they send a female

photographer who looks to be all of 15 years old to a perp walk. She gets

knocked around but gets the shot which is all that counts. She was shooting

Canon gear as was at least one other photographer in the scene. What Canons

were they? Film bodies to be sure but which ones? Which lenses and flash?

Enquiring minds still awake at this hour want to know.

Well, the film dates from 1994 - perhaps filmed in 1993. That would suggest an early EOS:

perhaps the very first EOS-1, or maybe EOS 630/600. Was the EOS 5 (A2e) around then? Also

I think the EOS 10 (Elan?) appeared just before then. So there's a range of cameras it could

have been. Or of course a late FD camera: the T90, for example.

I thought the only camera brand Hollywood used in its films and TV shows (a.k.a. product placement) was Nikon. Kind of like Macs appear to be the only PCs that exist in LaLaLand. There are notable exceptions: Kevin Kline's character insisting on some model of NEC PC to do his heroic research in "The January Man;" so it's good to know that Canon cameras do make an appearance from time to time.

Watch any movie from Sony Pictures and you will be sure to find a slew of Vaio's.

There is no exclusivity in product placement... whoever gets there first, pays the most money or has a relationship with the filmmakers.

Any Sony Pictures movie will also be likely to host Sony TVs, Sony Ericsson cell phones and Sony cameras.

Universal has a deal with Panasonic.

A lot of the choices are left up to the propmaster. Many times, there is a artistic "look" they are trying to get that a MAC vs PC might not offer or less likely Canon VS Nikon... more likely Canon/Nikon vs Leica.

Best regards,
