Philadelphia Street photo contest

<p>Hello all. I got wind of a Philadelphia photo contest that I wanted to

share, just in case anybody is feeling motivated. The contest is being held by

10th Street Camera in Philadelphia, and is limited to photos in the "street

photography" category. Looks like you don't HAVE to use a Leica to take the

picture. The winner will receive a refurbished Leica IIIf with a 50mm Elmar

lens and 5 rolls of Ilford B+W. The complete rules are posted <a

submitted by March 31st.</p>

<p>Anyone ever been involved in a street photo contest? Any ideas what the

judges might look for? I'm not affiliated with 10th street camera, by the way.</p>

From the fact they have a "myspace" I'd say it's probably run be a degenerate/n'er do well ; )

I'm on myspace, I guess I think the "degenerate" title is fine with me.

It looks like they set up recently on myspace. I don't know if there's a way to find out how recently, there may be a way.<p>

 

I figure when they say this:<p>

it means they're more interested in the physical media than the photograph itself.

I'm the degenerate, actually. As far as it being film only, I have had some complaints. Future contests will allow for digital, feel free to make any inference you want from it's exclusion.

Well, my curiosity is peaked...I'll stop by their "store" tomorrow. Again, I've never heard of them, have never seen any advertisements locally.

That is awesome.. I'd like to do this, though i would not win, still it would be fun.. by no

digital do they mean not even scanning in and printing digitally? Or just no digital camera?

John, I live in West Chester but I get into philly every now and again.

I work in Center City Philly and also am not familiar with this place. I've seen Camera Care on Arch go out of business, Center City leave Walnut Street. I know Webb's on North 12th, and Calumet is in South Philly.

 

Is this 10th Street place a gallery? In which case, who are they? And is this a way to build stock?<div></div>

James Copes, until very recently, worked at Adventure Photo in Exton: they shut their doors permanently in december. I believe James got his hands on some of Adventure's supply of equipment, found a storefront with an attractive address (and rent!) and now sells Leica and Nikon vintage-ware along with Efke film and some other items. (I'm sure James will step in and correct any of this if it's wrong.)

I really only sell equipment and supplies. My store is tiny, I wish I had enough room for a gallery. Stop by sometime if only just to introduce yourself.

that's cool...if you don't count the Speedline ride from NJ.....heh....I live like 5 blocks from the store. Have to stop in and check it out.

Get off the patco, walk up the stairs. Directly to your left will be the Locust Bar. Pick up a six pack. Procede to 10th Street Camera.
