james_alexander
I have a Dell E510 with 7-in-1 media card reader. Am I supposed to go through the "Safely remove USB mass storage" procedure before I remove a media card from the reader? When I do it shuts down the entire card reader and I have to reboot before it will recognize another memory card.
mendel_leisk
I did that once and never again. As you say, it's like disconnecting the reader. Then recently here, someone pointed out if you right-click the drive in Windows Explorer, one of the options is "eject". Sounds like that's the one to use. I've never had any issues with just pulling the card out, though.
steven_clark
I just wait until any writing is done and pull the card. I ignore the warning from windows and to be honest on my system there aren't any.
JeffOwen
My card readers I just pull out when any transfer is done. On my Archos 60Gb hard drive I usually click on the 'Safely remove USB mass Storage' but after a few 'Can't do as device is in use, please try later' I decided that it was OK to remove once all the transfers were over. Seems OK.
