john_brewton
I got my 3800 hooked up today. I have to say I'm not very impressed with my b/w test prints. Before I shut down my 2200 I printed one of my better prints using Quadtone RIP and printed on Crane Museo Silver Rag. This print is stunning. So I immediately printed the same print on the 3800. I used the ABW mode. No snap to the print at all. I tried to use Quadtone RIP (new download for 3800) but it won't let me print unless I fill in a new, different Curve profile which I didn't have to do with the old 2200 setup. So the gist of all this is: I would be interested in anyone printing with ABW as to what settings you are using. I like a cool print with deep blacks and lots of separation. I realize we all aspire to different looks for our prints, but some assistance as to what direction to go would be helpful. Thanks for all replies. custom film holders for fl
John - You might be interested in reviewing the postings about the 3800 in the archives of this group: <p> <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint/">Digital Black and White Printing Group at Yahoo Groups</a> <p> A number of 3800 users as well as QTR users post there. <p> Doug<p> <a href="http://www.betterscanning.com">BetterScanning.com</a>
greg lockrey
You just have to play with the controls until you get the snap you are looking for. There is enough slider bars to set dark and light, etc. and the color wheel is helpful for your over all tone. Too bad that it couldn't be the actual image that you are working on. I too am waiting for the QTR 3800 profiles. :( The yahoo groups linked from QTRgui and Roy Harrington sites art good ones to peruse.
john_brewton
I just heard from Stephen at Quadtone who said Roy is working on the curves for the 3800 but they are not available yet. He suggested going back to the 2200(!) until they are ready. Thanks for the tip on the Yahoo group - I'll give them a shot.
brian_ellis19
I could have sworn I saw an announcement from Roy a few days ago that QTR for the 3800 is available. Have you checked his web site?
greg lockrey
As of today, you can use profiles for the 4800 on the 3800. There are none specifically made for the 3800 as of yet.
