Cloudy Viewfinder Moskva 2 / Super Ikonta ,

Recommended Posts

I have what looks to be a dirty / cloudy viewfinder Moskva 2.

It looks like a simple task to remove and clean.

I have worked on Rolleis, and other German, Russian cameras, I even did a

complete strip down of a Moskva 5.

But I first wanted to asked the pros around here for tips.

One I wasn't sure how to open the top veiwer? any tips there are only a few screws

none seemed to loosen this device.

Two: After shining a flashlight into the eyepeice I noticed something that

looked like corrosion on glass or a mirror.... ohhh nooo

Is this a common problem? If I were to open it could this be cleaned or should I

be looking for spare viewfinder parts?

The Ikontas and Moskvas do NOT have a half-silvered mirror but a two-part prism with the gleued surface half-silvered. My Yashica35 has a similar prism, and so I cannot easily replace the not-existing mirror.

So prior to re-silvering the prism (which might be quite costly) you will have to unglue the prism. It might be much cheaper to buy a Moskva junk body (the prisms of the M2 and M5 are identical) and to cannibalize a prism.
