Viewfinder magnification

Recommended Posts

I would like to purchase a Leica M6-ttl body, but I am not sure what magnification to choose: 0.72x or 0.85x. I have a Konica Hexar-RF/Leica Summicron-M 35/2 Asph and a Minolta Dynax 9 (24/2.8, 50/1.4 and 80-200/2.8 Apo G). However, since I purchased the Hexar-RF I don't work that much with the reflex, so I was thinking to replace the SLR with a Leica M6-ttl + Elmarit 90/2.8. The Hexar-RF works fine with the Leica lens even at f2 as shown in the following examples: 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Could you please advise me what magnification to choose for the Leica body ?

Difficult question:

- if you accept to use it and find it, a 0,72 with the added 1,25

magnifier would be the best and will allow you the 2 lenses

- the 0,85 is the best for your 90 mm but you don't easily see the

edges of the 35 mm frame line, principally if you wear glasses (and

here, I perfectly know the problem!)

- if you accept to use the 35 only on the Hexar and the 90 only on

the M ... no doubt, go on the 0,85 also the best for a 135 and a

Noctilux.

Without hesitation I suggest the 0.72 with or without the 1.25x

magnifier. It reaslly doesn't make all that much difference. But

having the 0.72 will allow you to use the M6 interchangeably with the

Hexar and also as a backup for it. The 35mm framelines on the 0.85

are incovenient even without glasses.

if U think you ever will be drawn towards wide angle lenses,

definitely go with the .72 If you plan to shoot mainly the 90, or

add a Summilux 75/1.4 or a Noctilux 50/1.0 then I would perhaps go

with the 0.85 Personally I had the .72 but if I was to do it again,

I'd go w/ the .85 since I don't shoot wide. Tot ziens!

i would suggest the 0.85 for the teles.

i have the m2/3/4/6 and the m2/4 gets less use since i got the m3

w/50.

so now i carry the m3 for 50/90 and 12/15/21 and an m6 for 35 welded

on.

i don't like the mag. gadget as it would always catch on something:

my small bags, my belt loops, my straps, etc, etc, etc...

Great photos.

I use a Bessa R2 with my 21mm and finder on permanantly.

I have a m6ttl .58 which is super for 35 and 50( I wear glasses) I

suppose the .72 would be fine for my 90 but I can`t see me carrying

three bodies so I suffer the 90 on the .58( maybe i should get the

magnifier?)but like an earlier post it might get in the way.

I have read so much about the compatibility of Leica lenses on the

Hexar but looking at your images makes me wonder if the stories are

spread by the big "L"
