davyjo
If you read the "105mm Macro Lens Plus Extension Tube" thread which I started on 2/05 you might be interested in these images. Just a quick test using my Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II mounted reversed with a coupling ring. I found a ring on E**y for <$8 shipped!.
As you can see in the pictures below I am getting very close to 1:1 with the Sigma alone. It measures 24mm on a 22.5mm sensor. With the 50mm attached I'm getting just over 2:1 and there seems to be very little degradation in image. I think I'll set up some lights and try some more serious shots tonight.
Just thought some of you might be interested.
Thanks again for all the help.
Dave

jo7hs2
David, just curious, why does the lettering on the dime look inverted?
les
I have tried Canon's 100/2.8 Macro USM with reversed 50/1.4 with excellent results. I also tried a stack of Kenko extension tubes +1.4xTC on a 100/2.8 Macro - and the magnification is almost the same as with the 50mm reversed, with the added benefit of having much larger working distance. It is still possible to use 1.4xTC + Kenko tubes + 100mm macro + reversed 50mm, with resulting magnification about 5:1 - but the viewfinder gets real dark then - still, not bad :)

davyjo
Joshua, I guess I don't see what you're seeing. Do you think it looks like the lettering is indented instead of being raised?
J.W. Wall
It looks indented. Perhaps turn the image so the shadows point toward you (old aerial photo trick)?
j_smith6
You can make canon bellow with M42 adapters, it's pretty easy. There are lots of ways to get big magnification. Try attaching reversed lens (wide angle like 24mm, 50mm is also ok) on 300mm. That's big mag, but working distance is too short. The best way to get close is buying Canon macro lens which goes up to 5:1 or connect 100mm macro USM lens with home-made canon bellow and use strong flashes with Off-camera shoe cord 2. If you want to get some more informations about macro photography buy and old pro book about it with formulats etc. have one written by Arnim Tolke and Ingeborga Tolke I think it was also translated to English.
