rick_helmke
I've been looking at getting a D50 for my wife. She's pretty good when she has a camera that doesn't get in her way and I think the D50 will take care of that. Anyway, I've had two camera stores that I've done business with for years tell there are no more in the pipeline. One of these was an NPS dealer of long standing. Then I went to a store in another town and there they were, ready to go out the door. Well, Valentines is coming up and I didn't want to get caught short so I brought one home. Last time I checked B&H, both bodies and kits were in stock and available. I'm getting different stories from different sources I trust and wonder what's going on? Something new in March maybe, a D50s or something? In any case I'm happy and the wife is going to be. While I'm on a roll, I've asked all three of these camera stores if they will deal on the prices a bit on a cash basis. Their price tags are usually $100 or more higher than B&H but in every case they've discounted me. Maybe not quite as much but the place I've bought from has also dropped the sales tax, I don't know how he pulls it off. By the time I compare his bottom line to the total with shipping etc. from B&H, I've still spent a little more but less than you'd think, under $50 for bigger ticket items. For that small a difference I'll work with the local guy everytime. A good local brick and mortar store is a dissapearing resource and one I enjoy spending time in. Good to see a busy one. Rick H. ldallara
My local guy will match or beat B&H so I don't buy online much any more.
ShunCheung
At least several stores seem to have the D50 in stock, including B&H: http://www.nextag.com/Nikon-D50-6-1-71743778/prices-html For all practical purposes, the D40 is replacing the D50 so that when the remaining stock is sold, the D50 will not be available new any more. The D70s has also been discontinued as well. Nikon's DSLRs are on an 18-month cycle, approximately. Both the D50 and D70s became available in the summer of 2005 so that their time is now up.
