aaron_benner
I have a Leicavit in black paint I'm selling. I bought it second hand, was toldit had not been used. I had intended to use it with a black paint MP, but Iended up getting a chrome MP, so never used the Leicavit. When I first looked atit, I saw no signs of use, but didn't inspect super close. Now that I'm sellingit, I've taken some pics and I noticed what I think are very early signs of usearound the trigger. The location seems like the logical spot for early signs ofuse, since it's right where the index finger contacts the base when on the trigger. I don't really care about it, I'll sell it one way or the other, but when Ifirst noticed it, my impression was that it was actually some foreignmaterial/residual that just needed cleaned off. The way it looks it just lookslike it's something that should rub off. There's no scratches or anything. It'sonly noticeable at just the right angle to the light. I gently wiped with amicrofiber cloth and just moisture from a breath, but it doesn't seem to comeoff. I don't want to attempt any solvents or anything, but I'm still not surewhether it's early wear or something that would clean off. I recall when I got my MP and took that clear plastic off the base, it left someresidual adhesive that I cleaned off with glass cleaner. Not sure if I want toventure anything like that here, since I've not experience with the black paintfinish. Below are some pics. Any advice regarding experience with how the black paintwears, if this is typical, or whether I should try to clean it with something,is much appreciated. Rob F.
I suppose you could try a very mild cleaner, like some ivory liquid dish detergent in water, or a little lens cleaning solution on a cloth. If the spots don't come off, you could offer it as "like-new minus" or "ex+"; or better yet, just describe it as you did for us. Someone who really wants to use it won't care much about tiny spots on the baseplate.
kbg32
You know that removing the protective clear plastic off of your MP's bottom plate is a defnitive no-no. Kind of like removing those annoying tags from pillows and mattresses! :-)
aaron_benner
To make things clear, the Leicavit didn't come with any protective cover on the bottom. It may have originally, and that's why I speculated that the spots could be residual. Also, why not remove the protective plastic from the bottom plate? I bought the camera to use it. pablito_pistola
If you bought the camera to use it, then it does not follow that you're selling the Leicavit because the color does not match the camera. I don't get it. A black Leicavit on a chrome camera will screw up your pictures? OK, I'm being difficult. Try a product called Goo-gone. It's precisely for removing such sticky residues. Can't imagine it could damage the finish.
aaron_benner
Pica - If your question is directed at me, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Pablito - If you must know, I'm selling the Leicavit because I no longer have the MP, nor any M body. I had to sell the MP a few weeks ago, shortly after my first child was born, due to some unexpected expenses. But thanks for asking.
