morthcam
Based on the nomenclature, I would think that the ET-65 hood (for the85mm,100mm, and other lenses) would fit on the original 50mm 1.8, which takesthe ES-65 hood. That would make a lot of sense on a 1.6 crop camera -- cananyone confirm that this fits? I've seen ET-65II hoods; is II different from I?
morthcam
Just found the answer to my question in another thread -- Puppy Face says it fits.
terry_smith2
It does fit and work without causing any vignetting at the corners. My question is: Is it possible to reverse it on the lens when the lens is mounted on the camera? I ask because the ET 65 is deeper than the ES 65 (the correct one for this lens). The EW 65 also fits and works but it was designed for the 35/2 so it is not as deep as the other two and may not be very effective on the 50/1.8. HenryUK
As far as I can tell, the Mark II hoods have an improvement over the Mark I hoods, like black anti-reflective flock inside, instead of matt black paint. The ones I've tried seem to be interchangeable. Where there is a letter for the suffix, e.g. EW-60 and EW-60C, it means they are not interchangeable. steve_dunn2
Is it possible to reverse it on the lens when the lens is mounted on the camera?
I don't believe so. It's been a while since I used the ET-65 (on a 100-300/4.5-5.6 USM) but I believe the hood is deeper than the 50/1.8 is long. It's probably 2-3x as long as the lens is!

morthcam
Thanks, everyone. And I can now report from personal experience, the ES-65 hood for the original 50mm f1.8 works on the 28mm 2.8 without any vignetting on a 1.6 crop camera.
