jlkphoto
I just acquired a Pentax 67 75mm/f4.5 lens which appears near mint except the plastic on the auto/manual switch is cracked all the way through. The switch works as it should but I'm wondering if this is anything to worry about....
www.antiquecameras.net
If its functioning properly, nothing to worry about.
Dan
antiquecameras.net
sumo_kun
No, nothing to really worry about. The plastic switch itself is just a handle and it's attached to a piece of metal, which is the actual switch, if you understand what I mean... lee_travis1
The same thing happened to my 45mm f4; I repaired the plastic piece with a drop of superglue and it works fine, so far!
sumo_kun
Yes, you could just *carefully* drop a drop of superglue/CA glue into the crack to keep it together. Be very careful though because you don't want it to leak into the lens itself! I would personally use epoxy resin since its much stronger and doesn't fog from the fumes. Just mix some up and smear it into the crack. No leaks and it'll pretty much be permanent. I'm not sure if superglue/CA glue will fog glass but every plastic modeller knows that applying superglue to clear parts (like canopies of planes) will end up in it being fogged from the fumes that it gives off. Best not to try!
audun_sjoeseth1
What is the pupose of this auto/manual switch? I have a Pentax 645, a 6x7 200/4 (but the switch will not stay at manual only auto) and a 6x7-645 adapter. I don't have a 6x7 body. I something wrong with my 200mm? I may vant to sell i, but perhaps I'll keep it. It works great on my 645.
jlkphoto
The auto/manual switch has 2 uses. It allows a depth of field preview and it allows stop-down metering. With the front of the lens pointing away from your body, a properly operating switch will lock into position if one pushes down on the right side of the switch after sliding it right, to the "manual" setting. Pushing down on the left side of the switch should release the switch to "auto" mode.
