jamie_conlan
Hi, I just got a Leica R4s and the shutter is not firing. More specifically, thefilm advance lever will not crank, thereby the shutter wont cock and I cant firethe shutter. I got it out of the box this morning and pressed the shutter onceand it fired, but then I was not able to move the film advance lever again afterthat. It does not currently have batteries in it, nor do I have a lens to attachto it. Is there something that I can do to try to get it to work, or must I send it into Leica to be serviced? If I must service it, is the Leica center in NJ thebest bet, or is there a better solution in NYC? Thanks,Jamie

jamie_conlan
I now have two 1.5v alkaline batteries in the camera and have tried moving the shutter speed dial, as well as the exposure program dial all the way through their cycle, and the problem persists. stephen_w.
Return it to the seller.
jamie_conlan
damn, not the answer I wanted to hear. Are you saying that because the repair will be too expensive to bother with?
stephen_w.
Who knows what's wrong with it. If the seller didn't disclose that the camera is non-working, he/she should take it back.
john_boyle3
In the answers to your post of a week ago it was suggested that you check the archives on the Leica R cameras and that a Leica R4 may not be the best way to go. Now you know why that suggestion was made. A check of the archives on Leica repair sources will provide the names of several reliable places to get your R4s repaired. Good luck. jamie_conlan
Don at DAG camera said he would fix it for $100, so I am going to go for that. I went with the R4s, specifically because it had such a good review, in that it was less dependent on electronics than the other models and that those of a serial higher than 1.6 million were extremely reliable. So, I didn't think that I was making a mistake by going with this model. Also, I got the camera body for only $140.00 and it was stated that it was working perfectly. I guess I should have assumed that the seller was lying to me? thanks for all the feedback...
gary_pinkerton1
DAG quoted a 100 bucks without looking at the camera ? ! I'd send it back to seller ASAP and buy one from someone with a warranty attached, if it were me.
colin_elliott
Let's see.................a $140 for a Leica R4s, plus a $100 to fix it. Total $240. Pretty good deal from my perspective. The R4s was /is a very reliable camera. I had one from the moment they were introduced. The only problem I experienced was letting it go! Traded it for an R6. francois_gaboury
I second that, $240 for an R4 repaired by Dag is a good price. You could easily sell it back for the same amount. You can always try to get a credit from the seller.
jamie_conlan
I returned it to the seller tonight. I was going to send it to DAG if the seller would refund me $50 to offset the repair cost, but he didn't want to. He probably thought I was lying about the shutter problem.
