andreas_holmstr_m
So these two are pretty much the same price on the second hand market. Which one would you take?
nilangsu mahanty
The Tokina has exceptional build, but it's heavy. Users have rated it very highly.See http://www.photozone.de/active/survey/querylenstxt.jsp?filter=%22brand='Canon%20EF'%20OR%20brand='Sigma%20AF'%20OR%20brand='Tamron%20AF'%20or%20brand='Tokina%20AF'%20or%20brand='Vivitar%20AF'%2 . However it's only 20 mm on the wider end. The Sigma on the other hand has had mixed reviews and isn't constructed as nicely as the Tokina. See http://www.photozone.de/active/survey/querylenstxt.jsp?filter=%22brand='Canon%20EF'%20OR%20brand='Sigma%20AF'%20OR%20brand='Tamron%20AF'%20or%20brand='Tokina%20AF'%20or%20brand='Vivitar%20AF'%22 . Hope that helps.
andreas_holmstr_m
Thanks for the links, Yes I've read about the Tokinas celebrated build quality. Looking at the links you posted it seems as my choice is pretty simple, the Tokina mops the floor with the Sigma. 20mm is wide enough for me, I would have been good with a 28mm even. yakim_peled1
1. Which body do you use? 2. Have you considered other lenses e.g. the Tamron 17-35/2.8-4? 3. What will be the main application of the lens? Happy shooting, Yakim.
andreas_holmstr_m
Hi Yakim, I use the Canon 5D. I will mostly use it for scenery and urban pictures.
kin_lau
Funny how 20mm wideangles are getting cheap because they're not wide enough for 1.6x crop cameras. BTW, the Tokina AT-X build is awesome. My AT-X 28-70/2.8 could probably be run over by a car and not be damaged.
andreas_holmstr_m
Kin Lau: Sounds good! And yes, I got mine for a fairly good price too.
yakim_peled1
If you have a 5D I think that mounting a second grade lens in front of it is - photographically speaking - a silly thing to do. The minimum I'd recommend is the 17-40/4. You just spent 2.5K on this very fine body. Spend another 650$ on a good lens to put in front of it. Happy shooting, Yakim. andreas_holmstr_m
I change lenses a lot, but it will be fun to see what Tokina goes for.
