steven_sherwin
Just wondering if anyone has experienced stiffness in the M7 film advance lever in cold weather? When I say cold weather I am referring to minus 3-7 degrees C (sorry not sure what that is in F scale)...I am shooting both manual and auto settings with my M7 in northern japan and have noticed recently that both the film advance lever and shutter release have become a little stiff/sluggish... thank you
jeffery_pool
I was shooting in -15c with an m6 the other day and i didn't really notice an appreciable difference. probably because my temporarily gloveless hands were frozen numb.
love4leica
Last year I was shooting with my M6 in Pakistan when the temperature was 51 degree C. The shutter was fine and the film advance was as smooth as butter.
mike_earussi1
Don't forget that film itself becomes stiff in really cold weather. It is, after all, just water based geletin stuck to a plastic base. In truly cold weather, say -20C to -40C, it can actually freeze up and, if pulled too hard, can break. charles_stobbs3
Also fast winding can result in ststic electricity sparks on the film surface. Maybe some stiffness is a good thing.
charles_stobbs3
static (apparently affects fast typing also)
pablito_pistola
No wonder Afzal, at 51 C butter would melt!
janne1
It shoulndt be very stiff, but i have noticed when i shoot in good cold weather (-5 to -18c) it is slighlty so. But this year we havent had a real winter in finland yet, the weather almost like in middle europe now ;) But lenses do get little bit harder to focus, the grease gets stiffer, in summer they are like silk.
