frank_skomial
The money you have could possibly cover a low end kit from Adorama. Others are much more expensive.
giggles
Alien Bees are the way too go - I have one AB400 with their giant octanox and just love it. I will be ordering another after "tax season" is over. They have some great packages or you can put your own together.
dan_brown4
+1 on the Alien Bees. I have two of them with umbrellas, soft boxes, stands etc. Very versatile and cost effective. Get and AS-15 and save your PC terminal the wear and tear.
aaron l
You can use your on-board flash in manual mode to fire the Alien Bees. Love the AB's. You can get two SB-800's, too...
briany
What's the relative power between the ABs and the SB-800? Any idea how many f-stops we're talking? I would like to get some studio strobes, but am space constrained and the SBs would be useful in other situations and I already have one. I realize that the ABs are probably the way to go though... frank_skomial
AB400 has 160 Wattseconds, Nikon SB-800 has 65 Wattseconds.
