lee_crump
I have seen many great examples of close up portrature on this site. Unfortunatly most of these have the reflection from studio lighting in the eyes. Is there any way to prevent this?
phoneguy
It's called a catchlight...It's a good thing if done right.
w.smith
Like Mike says, those are 'catchlights'. And very desirable in most portraits as they add some 'life' into the photo. Without them people look more or less 'dead'.... They are in fact so desirable that many, me included, MAKE 'm in PP should they be absent in the original photo. However, catchlights from ringflashes are generally very ugly, imo. Though you may disagree.
bill c.
I've built massive 15-foot wide baffles just to get the type of big catchlights I want in my model's eyes, and headshot specialists in NYC and LA have been known to put parachute cloth over garage door openings to create a huge lightsource for big catchlights. But if you truly want to have no catchlights, and yet still desire soft/conventional lighting on the face of the model, probably your only approach is to PhotoShop them out. Happy shooting. -BC-
