torben_daltoft
Any experience out there? My built in crashed the other day. Is there a Leica or another brand that does the job?
furcafe
Just get a 60mm-62mm step-up ring & a generic 62mm screw-in hood. Total cost will be about $40, assuming you get a fancy B+W step-up ring.
raymond_tai
I have a 60mm to 62mm step up ring and just to let you know even if you screw a 62mm ring from a gutted filter on it you will see vignetting. Unless it looks really bad you should just leave it alone. The Noctilux is virtually flare proof.
furcafe
Raymond, are you saying that you get vignetting from a step-up ring alone? That doesn't make sense to me, as that would imply that the built-in hood (or the clip-on hood for mine) would then also induce vignetting. raymond_tai
The step up ring by itself on the Noctilux is fine but as soon as you screw something on top it will vignette, I tried using a thin gutted 62mm filter ring mounted on and could barely see slightly darker corners if focused very close. With two 62mm filter rings on the step up ring the vignetting will be obvious in all the photos.
furcafe
So, if you're getting visible vignetting from 2 filter rings, then your Noctilux must vignette considerably if you use the built-in/clip-on hood! I don't know, Raymond, but that's not the experience I've had using the clip-on hood on mine or, before I had the hood, using a standard length 62mm screw-in (on top of a 60-62mm step-up). The Noct' has plenty of light fall-off even w/nothing mounted on it, but that's a separate issue . . .
torben_daltoft
Thanks for the input. Christopher, which clip on hood?
furcafe
I have the older version of the Noctilux (60mm filter thread, c.1988) that takes the 12544 clip-on hood.
