JohnMWright
I read in a couple of places that the Gitzo 1325 will be replaced around February 2007. Based on the specs for the 6x tripods on the Gitzo site, I guess the model will be the 2530. Can anyone confirm this? I have two concerns if so... 1) the gitzo site says the 2530 is for 300mm tops (which makes no sense for a tripod rated for 26 lbs!). 2) The 2530 is listed as only 3.1 lbs? Maybe this is TOO light to handle big lenses (400 f/2.8, 500 f/4, etc). Or maybe the light weight is precisely why they say 300mm tops? I'm interested in the 6x technology for the anti-rotation feature, but I'm tempted to just go ahead and get the 1325 since its proven. Maybe I can learn to deal with the leg locks... JohnMWright
I dug a little further and found that the 35xx series may be the replacement series. The capacity is greatly increased, but they weigh a little more than the 1325. Still lighter than my 3221 though.
beeman458
You'll need to dig a bit deeper as the replacement for the 1325 IMO will be the replacement for the 1348. 3540LS: http://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=200 Same height as the 1325, less weight and greater capacity in which to offset the instability the fourth leg might introduce; all this with a shorter folding length......preorder at $650.00 (USD). Check out the specs above compared to the 1325 specs below. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=145131&is=REG&addedTroughType=search The claimed 1325 replacement is much shorter as everything else looks good....currently in stock at $560.00 (USD). http://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=199 Personally, over all, I think the 3540LS is looking better as a 1325 replacement. If you have a 1321, you're able to reuse it. This is a good thing. :) What-cha think?
frank_dzambic
I don't have the link handy as I'm not at home, but it seemed to me that the 3530 was also a replacement for the 1325. The 3530 having 3 section legs, and the 3540 having 4 section legs. Dig around on Gitzo's website. It's buried in there somewhere.

JohnMWright
Thanks guys. I think I'll wait until I can see a 3530 before I commit. My Bogen 3221 still works fine, I just want more stability with the legs fully extended.
beeman458
"My Bogen 3221 still works fine," I upgraded from a 3221WN to a 1325 and the performance difference the 3221WN and the 1325 is huge. With the above in mind, one really does need to consider size and weight in regard to a CF upgrade. 1158T, not enough carrying capacity but for travel purposes, indespenseable. The 1325, killer, but large in overall size and weight. I have high hopes for the 3540LS as it's more compact and weighs over a half pound less.
