mike_earussi1
I'm just starting to experiment with B & W film and was wondering what B & W film(s) are good for producing sharp high quality portraits with a good tonal range and smooth even grain. I doubt that I will be enlarging beyond 11x14. Also any recommendations for paper would be helpful as well. Thanks. Mike Earussi

stwrtertbsratbs5
I'm partial to HP5 plus (35mm, 120, and 4x5). I shoot @ EI 200 and develop in D76 1:3 for 14 min @ 68 deg, 2 inversions each minute. Beautiful tones, fine grain, and versatile.
ward
I use pan f+ for almost all my serious portraits. it takes some getting used to and demands a lot of light (and a tripod), but I absolutely love it.
gary_watson
You might enjoy Ilford XP2 Super rated at 200-250.As you likely know, it's a C41 process b&w film that prints to colour or b&w paper. Nice tonal range, smooth grain.Worth a try.
