fanta
Anirban, I believe the camera can be right for you: it allows you to set aperture, shutter speed and ISO. All the basics are there, and a lot more functionalities. You will figure out what kind of photography you like and can do better with practice, and from there what kind of lense you need. Nobody in this forum is able to predict it, so I recommend you stick with what you can afford, save your money, learn the basics, and buy more glass when you figure out what you need. If the above doesn't help, I will add that an all-around lens that gave me satisfaction when I moved from point & shot to SLR was the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM. Also consider the option to buy a used lens: if the previous owner kept it decently, it may serve you well for many years to come. Some dust in the lens will not affect your image.
