are rollei a26s inherently fragile?

i've been trying in vain to obtain one of these cameras in working condition. i

thought i had one- but after using it for a few days the meter died(?) it was in

a bag that may have been set down hard a few times, but the camera seemed to be

pretty robust. and yes the battery is fresh. i've also had a few DOAs, all of

them seem to have non-functioning meters, which makes the entire camera useless.

would using a modern 625 cell kill the meter with an overvoltage?

The easiest to find and best voltage match to the 625 mercury cells is the 675 zinc-air cells sold as hearing-aid batteries.
