New to Photoshop - How to get it to view RAW

Recommended Posts

I'm brand new to Photoshop CS2 and can't even get started. I need Bridge to do

something like Canon's Zoombrowser; i.e., view files in RAW. I looked up RAW in

PS help and it provides great instruction on how to use it, but never where to

launch it from. I cannot find it anywhere on the menus or toolbars. I saw

"addon" mentioned, but can't imagine this product requires an addon to view a

camera RAW file?

Any help would be appreciated. THanks!

Debbie, I'm not sure how you're doing this, but you should be able to see RAW files in Bridge with no problem. Upload the images from the camera to a file folder of your choice (preferably a folder created specifically for your RAW files), then open the folder in Bridge. If you're still having problems, come back here....

Adobe Bridge/Photoshop uses a plug-in called "Adobe Camera Raw" (ACR) to open and interpret RAW files. If you can't see thumbnails, you probably need to download and install the latest version of ACR. You can find it at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3554. Follow the installation instructions carefully - ACR goes into a common directory.

If you can view the CR2 files with Canon's software, then the files are not corrupt. I'm guessing you have viewed them with zoombrowser based on your wording.

Perhaps CS2 or the ACR addon didn't install correctly? Not to beat the topic to death, but did you make sure your model camera is supported by the version you installed?

Debbie,

Did you ever solve your problem. I was having the same issue. I did everything everyone

suggest here with no success. I went to Adobe.com and

found the updater for Bridge. You should be at 1.0.3. Once I installed that and restarted

my machine I can now view RAW files. Hope this helps someone. I was ready to find a job

driving a truck :)
