jlemire
will a fisheye lens still give the fisheye distortion on a DSLR, assuming the DSLR has a 1.5 or 1.6 crop factor?
todd peach seattle, washi
Not too much. You can figure this out for yourself if you have access to a fisheye file from film or a 1:1 DSLR. The 'native' size is 24x36mm. Map a rectangle of 18x24mm onto it (for a 1.5 crop) and you'll get a feel for what the resultant image will look like. I think Ellis Vener once described it as looking like a 24mm lens with notable barrel distortion (from memory). It's not 'fisheye', it's just not terribly straight. frank uhlig
How about a "circular fish-eye" that fills a circle of radius 24mm on film, when used on a DSLR? That should almost give a d-fish-eye pic, should it not?
todd peach seattle, washi
Frank - Yeah, that might be close. You could try the mapping thing to see if the resultant image is 'fishy' enough for you.
