g-man1
The folks at the Leica forum are complaining of a magenta cast on M8 pics due to poor infrared filtering. I noticed the same on a number of pics taken outside with my D50. Is this peculiar to the D50 or do other Nikon Digital SLRs have it as well? Post your examples.<div></div>
aardvarko
That picture's cold, if anything. There's more to this color business than one might think.
jonas_yip1
A lot of the Nikon cameras are quite IR sensitive, at least the older ones. There have been several tests recently that compare the behavior of various cameras under "IR test conditions", i.e. various fabrics under direct light. In general the older Nikons (like D1x, D2h) show the IR-inflicted magenta cast while the newer ones (D2x, D200) do not. None seem to be as sensitive as the M8. I don't know where the D50 falls in the IR-sensitivity range. Here are links to some of the tests: This is my comparison that includes a D2x, D1x, RD-1 and a Sony P&S: http://www.underexposure.com/irtest This is Mark Davison's test (D200, M8, RD-1, D2h): http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/MarkEDavison/M8infrared/
StuartMoxham
My D70 does the same also. I may get an infra red blocking filter when I get round to it.
