sheldonnalos
I just ran across this on another forum. This is an amazing Photoshop technique and very powerful. I suggest you read this and add it to your bag of tricks. http://www.goodlight.us/writing/luminositymasks/luminositymasks-1.html
mendel_leisk
Sheldon, thanks for posting this. I read through the first light mask portion, started to glaze over a bit when he introduced the additional masks. I'm sure going through the steps with an image is a lot more illuminating. I've got this bookmarked and will give it a try. I think I recognize that first image, he posted here (is a member?): the finished version is just amazing. sheldonnalos
Yes, the reading took quite a bit to wrap my head around when I first went through it. It took following the instructions step by step to have that "Aha!" moment of how it all worked. For me, the most useful thing is the ability to create a midtone mask for a curves adjustment layer. You can throw a drastically strong curve on the layer, and it only affects the midtones of the photo. Very, very useful.
