bill_carriger2
I have just discovered a hole burned into my shutter curtain, presumably by the lens! Holy Crap, I can't believe this! Everything I have read about the danger of this sort of thing happening has been that it would have to sit for a very long time in direct sunlight to occur! I never let my camera do that! So, how much is this gonna cost me? I presume they will have to replace the entire shutter curtain. Any ideas? Thanks.

ronald_wills
Bill, don't sweat it. Check this page for some do it yourself repair options. Good luck. Ron http://nemeng.com/leica/025b.shtml
adrian bastin
To find how long it takes to burn a hole, take off a 50 lens and concentrate the sun's rays onto something disposable. I haven't tried it but it should take just seconds - especially if it's black and extra specially if it's rubberised silk.
piotr_panne
I can\'t imagine somebody smoking an M8. Well. Here. Yea. I guess maybe.
bill_carriger2
Thanks Ronald for that link! Doesn't seem so serious after all. By the way, neglected to mention it is an M7, only a couple of years old. Thanks everyone! Bill
SolaresLarrave
Bill, sorry to hear about your Leica woes... Now, I remember having read in this site or elsewhere that the cost of the shutter curtains themselves is only USD100. Of course, to that you add labor and it may go up, but then, that's relatively reasonable for Leica standards. If I were in your shoes, I'd go get the liquid rubber immediately. Good luck! jtk
Like the man said, "liquid electrical tape." Home Depot, etc. A little dot'll do you. Get the black version, just for aesthetics. I've done it, works fine.
adrian bastin
Does anyone know an equivalent to liquid electrical tape in the UK ?
will_perlis
"I haven't tried it but it should take just seconds - especially if it's black" I have tried it. You can find the thread several years back. Yes, it takes only seconds to see smoke rising from dark cloth. I didn't try it on a Leica shutter curtain, I'm totally willing to let someone else do that experiment and take credit for it.
