W/NW: Your Audio Slideshow

Recommended Posts

More and more online newspapers, blogs and individuals are getting into audio

slideshows. It's a fun, low-cost way to piece together your photos and accompany

them with text, words and/or music.

I did my first test or attempt earlier today and the result can be seen HERE. It was great fun to

put together and the only 'tools' I needed was a) a demo version of Soundslides and b) free hosting at

WebNG.

All photos were taken with either Leica M3, Olympus 35SPn or Hasselblad

500C/N.

Would love to see others slideshows.

The playback kicked in fast enough for me and the slides looked great. However -- and I

know there's a huge issue of personal taste here -- I would admit to simply finding the

music in this instance intrusive rather than adding to the experience... Nice pictures,

though.

Hi Rich,

good pics there. I have a question for you: how do you deal with copyright for the song(s) you are using? I was planning to start getting in this multimedia stuff, but I was quite worried about getting sued from some record label...

Loved it. Great shots. The music was not intrusive in my opinion and added a nice touch

to the photos.

It got me thinking about what I can do with the legions of negatives that I scanned and are

sitting around.

I am an attorney who has an adoption practice. I deal with both pregnant women and the

adoptive parents. I have been thinking about doing what you did, for a long time.

Thanks for waking me up and getting me thinking.

Mikal

For free, legal music you can always use iRate that allows you to gather music from a number of independent music sources that allow for legal downloading and listening to some good music. Some more information about legal music here: Info

Two more thoughts, Rich:

First, I'm not sure, on reflection, that the text of your headers related consistently to the photo-stream, either on the AIDS history/awareness side or on the "vibrant community" side. While noting this, I must say it did not meaningfully diminish my overall appreciation of the presentation, nor my enthusiasm for it.

Second, the references and links to the underlying tools and resources you relied upon are genuinely appreciated. That represents the best spirit of a Forum like this, and you should be commended for it.

Michal, thanks. Yes, being that it's my first attempt at something like this I'm sure it's VERY far from perfect so I also really appreciate feedback like yours.

I'd like to do more of these slideshows but the next time record ambient sound and voices and/or narrate it. We'll see.

Btw, I realized that one downside with webNG.com is that the free bandwidth one get is fairly small (about 40MB/eight hours). The show I had put up resulted in a bandwidth usage of 280MB+ in that timeframe and is overallocated at this time. Having said that it takes about five minutes to create a duplicate so here is an alternative link: 94114

Rich,

You said you would love to see others slideshows.

I very much enjoyed looking at your photos, so it's only fair I share a slide

show of a few shots I made a while ago accompanying Zen monks in Kyoto on their

begging meditation.

All photos were shot with a Digilux2.

Regards, Dirk

Dirk, thanks for sharing - some really great b&w photos in that slideshow. (Btw, I got the link to work if I changed it to this: Dirk's link). I really liked the last photo of the slideshow and how the music faded out as it came up. Nice.
