Slow Mirror

Hoping to finish a roll of Kodak Gold 100 up this morning, I set out to take

some early morning pictures with my AE-1P. The sun was out, the wind was

blowing, it just rained last night, and it was 39 degrees F! Well as I was

shooting I noticed it seemed the shutter was sticking. I only had about 8

pictures to shoot to finish the roll, so I continued until I was done. When I

got home and was able to open the camera up, and it was still cold, I see the

mirror was slow to move up, not the shutter slowing down or sticking. Hopefully

I was able to still get full frame pics. I guess I will know when they get back.

I presume this happened because of the grease/lubrication used got cold?

When was the last time you had your camera serviced? think about never changing the oil in your car how would it run.

My Guess without further info is that your AE-1P is due for a Clean Lube and Adjust by a qualified service person. Cost between $65.00 and 100.00

It was done by United-Camera, a authorized Canon repair center. I had a CLA done about 5-6 yrs ago. I rechecked the camera tonight, and it works fine. I think the cold humid conditions caused it to slow down some. I think in the owners manual it discusses cold temps. Anyway, not to worried. I let the camera air out and warm up though as well as the lens so I would not get condensation.

Joe,

They even used to recommend having lubricants removed prior to a trip to really cold territory. But not 39 degrees.

The mirror mechanism releases the first shutter curtain. The mirror has to be out of the way, therefore, and should never partially block the shutter gate.
