Immigration Bill Protests

I thought I will share a few pics from yesterday protest in New York

City April 10, 2006. Crowd was estimated between 75,000 & 125,000. It

was very peaceful.

I think these are great. I love your focus which to me seems you have really shown the human

faces of these people, and what nicely done faces!

Wonderful set. For me the little girl with the flag is the most compelling . Some of the scans in the linked folder seem a mite dark, though.

yep, they are dark. with the exception of the first one, which is grossly under, I wanted them dark -- it takes care of the mess in the background.

Yeah, exposing for the highlights did the trick because it puts the attention on the faces

which are so cool. I like the exposures and the way it worked out.

Thanks for sharing these. Very nice work. As others have mentioned, I really like how you capture the individual expressions of these people participating in this protest. Rather than diffusing the focus within the streets or crowds (which seems so typical of protest/event photos), you tightly capture each invidual within the context of the event - which seems to me to make for sensitive and compelling photography. I've always liked your NYC work, and these add richness to that work.

 

Finally (and sorry to take away from the discussion of the work!), but do you mind my asking what film and scanner?

real story. In it's small part, is a great contribution towards a compassionate resolution of

the situation.
