50/1.8 Stops AF

I have a new Rebel XT and 50mm f/1.8 lens. I notice if I click the

lens off AF and manually focus, when I click it back on AF, AF

doesn't work. I've turned the camera off and on, changed the AF

point to no avail. If I take the lens off the camera and put it

back on, it re-engages. Does anyone else have similar problems? I

know it's a cheap lens and I probably shouldn't be so picky, but I'm

curious.

You have to switch it pretty sharply sometimes. Mine does this too - just flick it sharply

back to MF and sharply to AF again. It should work fine.

Ditto that. The switch on mine is the same way. Just flip it a couple of times.

Work fine as it should on my MKII(it could switch between AF and MF without taking the lens off). Something wrong with yours.

It's just a flaky switch, which is pretty normal with this lens.

Mine does exactly that sometimes, pretty annoying. I switch it back and forth again, and then it works.

Ditto on the "switching from MF to AF sharply!" Mine has the same problem on occasion.

Thanks all. I'll give it a try. Sounds on par: cheap lens - cheap switch. But worth a few hastles for the price.
