christian_redder
The exposure (I guess I might also call it a light) meter on one of my Nikon FEs is not working properly. Despite any apereture changes, the needle does not move at all, and only does when I move the camera to very bright or very dark areas. I've tried a couple of lenses, but no difference. Any suggestions? It had been working the last time I used it, which was about a month ago.
mal_yas
Does the lens "click" onto the body? if not, take a small screwdriver, try to tighten or loosen the mounting ring a bit and see what this will do..may be the aperture ring is stuck Good luck

Sanford
Happened to my FE. I had it "fixed" several times but it happened again - not worth the expense to repair anymore with good cheap used FE's out there. Does it seem like the auto exposure still works? Mine still seems to work in auto but no readout available.
photo5
I don't know if this is the particular problem with the posters camera, but the FE does have a rather delicate variable resistor assembly below the rewind crank that is prone to failure. They redesigned the circuit for the FE2 which doesn't have that part so won't suffer the same problem. I shot with an FE2 for years and have owned three different FE bodies as backups over the years, and sold all of them. I never liked the FE's resonance that was made every time I released the shutter. The FE2, F3 and FM2 don't make this ringing sound, but the FE does. Never liked that. leicaglow
I also had a meter go out when the LED test light got stuck on. It kept draining the battery. Does the switch around the LED move? Last FE repair was about $100-125 with CLA.
gary_watson
As Conni suggested, a flat battery might be the culprit. You might also make sure the AI tab is flipped down to engage the notch on the lens aperture ring.
