chris_chen
Sorry,
Forgot to add:
The individual threads were black. So, it seems rubberization is done before weaving (?)
andy_piper2
Naaww. Black-dyed silk threads - the rubber is coated onto ready-woven cloth (see front of shutter). The rubber covers the whole piece of cloth smoothly. If it were added to the threads before weaving you'd still be able to see the weaving pattern - the rubber wouldn't have filled in the tiny dimples between threads unless added later. chris_chen
Andy,
Thanks. Why would Leica put it on the "exposed" side of the curtain and not on the film side? It would seem that silk would be more sun resistant than rubber.
alfie wang
Silk is a wonderful choice for the shutter. What would happen if I replace my bedroom curtains with silk too?
