Ground glass fresnel

Hi,

I own an Ebony 45S camera, and I've been thinking about buying a

spare ground glass. Midwest offers both a wide angle fresnel, and a

4x5 fresnel. What is the advantage of the wide angle over the 4x5? I

own a 75 mm, a 90mm, a 150, a 210, and a 300 mm lenses,

The focal length of the Fresnel screen should match the focal length of the lens to get the highest and most even brightness.

Does anyone know what Fresnel came with the Speed Graphic? I have a 1956 vintage model, and it came with a 137mm lens (AFAIK)...

Fresnels are lenses and they have focal lengths more or less like "regular" lenses have focal lengths. A wide angle Fresnel is just a Fresnel with a shorter than normal focal length so that it matches up better with shorter than normal lenses and makes it easier to compose and focus with a short focal length lens on the camera. If the Fresnels that MidWest sells are Ebony Fresnels I'd assume that the wide angle ones are intended for use primarily with the various Ebony cameras that have short bellows and which therefore are intended to be used mainly with shorter than normal lenses. Given the focal length of the lenses you own I wouldn't think you're a candidate for a wide angle Fresnel unless you either seldom use your 150mm and longer lenses or you were willing to tote two backs around, one with a wide angle Fresnel for use with your 75mm and 90mm lenses and the other with a "normal" Fresnel for use with your 150mm and longer lenses.
