peter_holt2
Hello everyone, I've just bought a second hand Toyo camera that came with a Schneider Kreuznach 150/5.6 apo symmar multi coated lens on it. I've looked on the schneider site for a reference for the serial numbers but they start in the thousands and mine has a serial number engraved of GE 023 and the other odd thing is the body of the lens is a gold color. Can anyone advise me as what I may have bought here?
pico_digoliardi
Sorry to have to tell you, but it's a General Electric contracted lens, and that's not gold; it is polished and laquered brass. The "glass" is plastic, and the coating is just brushed on. It was for decorative purposes only. All serial numbers were alike. None were legally sold. Yours is probably stolen. I wouldn't take it into a national park or anywhere there are federal LEOs. Send it to me and I will send you an adequate replacement. (It's a Gold Edition, ya big silly.) paul_owen
Yep its a gold one! I'm pretty sure Schneider released a 90mm, 150 and a 210 with the gold coloured barrel to celebrate ... something!
agnes_weessies
I have the Schneider 150 gold lens as well. Mine is 001 in the series. Only 200 were made.
michael_briggs2
My memory is that these lenses were released sometime in the 1990s. A guess -- maybe they were for Schneider's 80th anniversary, which would have been 1993 (http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/company_history/). Why don't you contact Schneider (http://www.schneideroptics.com/contact_us/) and ask them?
peter_holt2
Thank you all for your help, much appreciated. I've sent an email to schneider as you suggested. But .... being rather short of cash what with a d2x and just getting into LF I need to be cheeky and ask if you know if it is worth any more than a standard one. Since I have no emotional attachment to it yet it would help to replace it with a standard one, if it's cheaper, and some other goodies for the kit.
