josh c.
Hello, I have a programming and web development background. I am not particularly knowledgeable on the field of photography. I am just getting involved in providing some services to a local photographer who handles weddings/engagements/portraits/etc, and once establishing myself, I plan on extending those services to other local photographers. The two services I am providing are: (a) Generating proof albums on CD, including resizing and watermarking the images and burning to CD. (b) Providing an online ordering service; the photographers' customers can login to a website and review the proofs and order the various prints all online. How much should I charge for such services? How much are other companies charging and what/where are some examples? How much would YOU pay for such services? Thanks for your help,Josh
annealmasy
Good luck.
I worked with SimplePhoto for a year, one of the industry's best new web-proofing systems (especially great for school/package photographers). Building a fully-featured, customizable system for online proofing and sales is a bigger task than one would ever think!
Check out some of these companies to see what's out there: www.simplephoto.com
www.photoreflect.com
www.morephotos.com
www.printroom.com
www.pictage.com
www.smugmug.com
www.eventpix.com
There are only a million more out there, all offering something slightly different from the other, all with a slightly different pricing structure.
All the best!
-Anne Almasy, http://www.almasyvisualarts.com
