Yashica A = What filter or Bay size?

Recommended Posts

I have an old Yashica A coming in the mail I found it for $15 bucks.

Its a nice little TLR with a good portrait lens.

Most if not all Yashicas and Rolleis take Bay mount Filters.

The Yashica A model had no Bay mounts just a round ring?

Anyone what size filters I can get for this, will Bay 1 lens caps and Shades

somehow fit?

The Yashica A takes a 32mm push on filter, not the bayonet mount. Sometimes they show up on eBay, or keep an eye out at the camera shows...Keep a metric ruler (or the camera) with you to measure. If there are any older camera stores around you, ask the oldest person working there, you might be surpised to see what they have tucked away in a drawer. The Yashica A is a great camera...I love mine. The "red window" system takes a bit more effort than the crank wind on the Yashicamats, but it is much more dependable. I also like the Yashic A lens better for portraits, as the pictures have a subtle softness around the edges.

As John B mentioned these are wonderful cameras and there is very little that can go wrong with them, especially in the winding mechanism, which seems to be a problem in all older TLR cameras due to dried grease.

Always make a habit of releasing the shutter and then winding to the next frame immediately, to avoid double exposures.

I found a Series VI filter adapter with a 32mm adjustable slip-on ring which works great. There are Series VI hoods available, but they are usually found in accessory boxes at photo fairs. These items are not available in new. With the Series VI adapter you can fit series VI filter inside and then hold them in place with a Seties VI retaining ring. Again, these are all vintage and used items.

Here is a quick photo I took of the Series VI unit. Sorry, had a bit of camera movement. The lens hood is on the left and the Series VI adapter with the adjustable 32mm slip on is on the right. By adjustable, it has slots that can be pushed in and out a bit to adjust the fit. I painted the adapter with a quality flat black spray paint to avoid flare.<div>00Gv8o-30554784.jpg.c8151f9dd1ab8b2e4b1b5055a59562ce.jpg</div>
