Well, if everybody is lurking and not participating than of course the forum will be boring, what would you expect. I would suggest instead of lurking, come up with a good subject to start a thread on, answer intellegently about some of the other threads and if we all do this, than the forum will be better than it is. Gabriel, grow up and get some initiative, don't rely on others.

I always leave my job sites secretly and quitely, not wanting a ceremony/celebration (yeah right)/gifts, you get the idea. Then, I get a barrage of e-mails asking why I never said anything. Unlike you, we stay in touch, and often work together again...priceless. So, your "grand" exit will not be missed.

Hasta Luego

Gabriel, this boredom of which you speak sounds like it could well be a symptom of clinical depression. Photo.net was never intended to forestall or cure depression, and you should treat it at once because it becomes worse over time. Instead of visiting here, try drinking for a while and see how that works for you. ;<)) Best regards, Bill

I just recently started reading in this forum, mostly due to seeing Mr. Kaplan's photos. I will admit to wondering why someone would take 15mm photos of himself and post them as he does. However, after only about a week I now see a photographer doing a very interesting project, posting results, asking for feedback, giving information and inviting those interested to share a portion of his life. I almost feel as though I know him as a friend although we have never communicated. If this site had more members with the passion and willingness to share as he does, we could all benefit. In this life we've got participants and onlookers, participants rarely get bored.

I tend to agree with Gabriel. The forum was much more interesting a few years ago - political discussions (mostly with a photographic slant) and so on added a dimension that is lacking now. The forum's obsession with a few self-promoting personalities like Al Kaplan and Frank Granowski is pretty symptomatic, IMO, that there isn't much left to talk about anymore. The quality of the photography presented here has gone downhill too, despite what Trevor says about the tendency to moan about the good old days. On the other hand, people seem to prefer it that way. Fair enough.

"Vivek, what the heck was that URL you posted? I'm a native of F'ville Arkansas, so it was fun to see the site, but egad, what pedestrian images, and I'm usually a nicer reviewer than that."<p>

Jim, I believe he was issuing an invite to our forums:<p>

As for my pedestrian images, please feel free to contact me, take me under your wing, and teach me the way of the master photographer. I've only been shooting 1.5 yrs, getting better at it as fast as I can. Will consider all pointers.<p>

Best wishes,<br>

CE Nelson, my apologies for such an unkind, smart-alecky remark. No excuses, just plain bad behaviour on my part. Advice? More interesting subject matter - not the millionth biker chicks shot ala "here's my friends Karen and Kathy" - would be a good start. Try shooting things that aren't special, and the way light wraps around and passes through those mundane things. Keep shooting and don't let people like me (on a bad bad day) get in your way. And enjoy the hell out of F'ville. I live in New Zealand now, but F'ville is my second favorite place in the world. Grew up there, and have 140 years of family history there. Some of my favorite F'ville subject matter: decaying rock walls, the ways individual yards are separated (or not) from each other, frat party behavior (when they're not mugging for the camera), and the light coming through the leaves of a maple tree. Hope you had a beautiful fall.

Hmmm, you've been gone long enough not to know about recent events, I'm sure. I moved here 7 years ago, and the change in that short period has been staggering.<p>

Fayetteville is being gentrified at an alarming pace. Much of old Fayetteville has or is process of being boutiqued for the nouveau riche in the area. WalMart millionaires, you know...<p>

Some things still stand - Maxines Tap Room hasn't been demolished yet. Huff is still in business next to that (had a tour of his studio recently). The building the Grill was in was converted to condos and jewelry sales, new top-dollar apartments behind that. Jerry's, the little diner at College and Dickson is now a salon... and make sure you pronounce it co-rectly. It's tres chic.<p>

As for fall, it's been extremely colorful. Best color since I first visited in 98. Some stuff I recently shot to show it off, lots of orange this year.<p>

Everybody is prone to a gruff moment. No blood no foul. Still, unless somebody waltzes in with their balls in hand and sez out loud, "yo! check out da size of deez nuts!", probably best to reserve sharp critique. I can find plenty of the mundane in your work if I look for it. Dig?<p>

Family and I have alway wanted to see NZ. Lemme know if yer business is such that you require an assistant. Do you happen to know a Francis (Frank) Till?<p>

Some recent stuff below.... roaming the hills stuff... just photos... no pretense. I also think you should look again at my 2005 Bikes Blues and BBQ series.<p>
