ned_otter
Greetings, Is it possible to adapt my 3.5F Bay II Rollei to use modern filters, i.e. B+W, Heliopan, etc.? I know that B+W and Heliopan make Bay II filters, but I'd rather not wait 6 to 10 weeks and shell out the extra money. I checked Fotocare and B+H today, and they both said that there is no such thing as a step-up ring from Bay II to any modern format. Thanks in advance for your help Ned Otter
doug grosjean
Don't know for sure about the Bay II, but.. I have a Bay 1 on my Rolleicord V and Rolleiflex MX-EVS. Bought a Bay1-to-49mm adaptor, and then Cokin filter flange, and filter holder, and filters. Bought the adapter through Pacific Rim Camera, IIRC. Don't know if they have Bay II, but they might. richard_laepple
Heliopan makes a step-up ring from bay II to 35.5mm thread.
doug grosjean
D'oh! My bad on the adapter supplier. Correct place is: www.camera-depot.com Thousand Oaks, CA They do have a BayII-49mm adaptor. P/N B2-49. See www.camera-depot.com/TLR.htm Doug
douglas_green1
You can buy Bay II to threaded adapters on the 'bay in either Bay II to 49mm, Bay II-52mm, or Bay II to 55mm sizes. Also Bay I and Bay III to threaded adapters are available as well in those sizes. I personally own a Bay I to 49mm adapter for my TLR.
SCL
I have a BayIII to 55mm my 2.8E. I'm sure a check of Ebay over the course of a couple of days will unveil a couple of purveyors of BayII step up rings.
ned_otter
Many thanks to all who have responded. I ordered a Bay II to 52mm step up ring from ebay, as suggested. One more question - can you attach a lens hood when using the step up ring with filter, and if so, any recommendations? Thanks --
richard_laepple
Ned, I would have ordered a 49mm step-up ring because the size comes closer to bay II. A lens hood will probably cover the viewing lens a bit but if you get a rubber hood, you can press it down while you are looking through.
douglas_green1
FYI, since TLR Bayonet hoods are so costly due to scarcity and collectors, I made my own extremely cheap lens hood for my TLR this way: I had a bunch of old filters that were scratched and which I never used and I simply removed the glass from 4 of the old crappy filters I had lying around, and screwed the filter rims together, giving me a nice lens hood for 49mm threads, which works nicely on those Bay-thread adapters. This can be done for whatever size threads that you wish to have. If a hood using 4 filter rims vignettes slightly on your lens, use 3 instead. Or, if you want to be able to use this WITH a filter, use 3 filter rims instead. The nice thing about this type of hood, rather than a standard 49, 52, or 55mm rubber hood, is that it doesn't flare out wide and thus block the taking lens - an issue noted in a prior post. douglas_green1
IMHO, the difference between a Bay II-49mm and a Bay II to 52mm thread is negligible. You should get whichever of those filter sizes you already have the most filters in for your other camera/lens combos.
